The neighborhood of Hortaleza

Today we travel with our blog to the neighborhood of Hortaleza.

Located in the northwest of Madrid is the neighborhood of Hortaleza, with a population of over 180,000 inhabitants.

It is said that its name comes from the derivation of the word Fortaleza.

Between the 12th and 13th centuries, in order to settle the territories conquered from the Muslims, the crown ordered that the banks of rivers and streams be populated, thus obtaining important fiscal advantages.

What is today the neighborhood of Hortaleza, was years ago a small village surrounded by streams and watercourses.

A village that gave way to the great estates of nobles of the time and through which passed illustrious personalities such as Rafael Alberti and Ortega y Gasset.

It joined the city of Madrid in 1950, becoming a district in 1970.

Within the neighborhood and almost the entire city, the famous Iberdrola headquarters building at 3 Tomás y Redondo Street is well known.

We were very fortunate to be able to set up our storage rental branch in Hortaleza, wall to wall with the electricity giant.

The neighborhood is currently adjacent to IFEMA and Valdebebas and has exits to the M30 and M40.

Among its streets, we can still find the gate of the Huerta de la Salud, from 1749, the silo, the dovecote or the watchtower.

Among its illustrious neighbors, how not to remember Don Luis Aragonés, the famous soccer player and coach nicknamed the wise man of Hortaleza, who has a sports center with his name and a monument in his memory. And for all the neighbors who have space problems, our Hortaleza storage rental office is now open to the public.
